Income tax, retirement pay and other taxes

  • No rating needed

No Texas State Income Tax on Military Retirement or VA Benefits

Texas does not levy any state tax on individual income, so military retirement pay, VA disability compensation, and other veteran benefits are not subject to a state income tax. This is a state constitutional protection rather than a special veterans' carve-out.

    Who qualifies
Rating: No disability rating needed. Applies automatically to all individuals in Texas, including veterans, because the state constitution bars the legislature from imposing a tax on the net income of individuals.
    How to apply
No application needed; there is no state income tax return to file.
