- Step 1: apply 50% to the 100.0% that was still healthy. That adds 50.0 points, for a running total of 50.0%.
- Step 2: apply 30% to the 50.0% that was still healthy. That adds 15.0 points, for a running total of 65.0%.
What this tool does not cover
- The bilateral factor. When disabilities affect both arms or both legs, the VA adds an extra factor before rounding. This calculator does not apply it, so your official rating may be higher.
- Your payment amount. Monthly compensation depends on your rating plus dependents. Current rates are published on VA.gov.
- The VA's decision. Only the VA assigns ratings, based on your record and current medical evidence.
