Benefits information can be difficult to navigate. Start with the general need, find an official source and connect with the right office or accredited professional. You can use these resources without taking the other lessons.
Start with the need, then find the category
Write a general question such as “Where can I learn about education options?” or “Who can explain healthcare enrollment?” Keep diagnoses, claim numbers and detailed personal records out of this worksheet. A broad category is enough to find the official starting page. Different benefits have different requirements, and this course cannot determine whether you qualify.
Check the source before sharing information
Open the official destination directly and confirm that you are on the intended website. Look for the organization’s contact information and the date or context of the guidance. A social media post or search advertisement may omit important details. If you receive an unexpected request for documents, verify the recipient through an official contact route before responding. This site has no claim-record upload process.
Prepare for a useful general conversation
Ask whether you have reached the right office, which services it offers and how to arrange help. Ask what you should bring through its own secure process, whether an appointment is required and whether there are fees. An accredited representative can address questions about your individual claim. Keep your personal deadlines and correspondence with the appropriate professional; a resource worksheet is not a filing or an extension.
Leave with one verified destination
Copy the office name, official website or telephone number and the date you plan to make contact. If one office cannot help, ask which official office covers your need. The national VA directory is available even if your county is not listed on HTB. Record when you checked the information, because office details and programs can change. You do not have to complete this course before contacting help.
Illustrative example
Imagine a household with questions about healthcare, education and a home loan benefit. Listing those as separate categories helps identify the corresponding official VA pages. The next action could be to call one office to ask about its process. This example does not establish eligibility or imply that the household obtained a benefit.
Three practical actions
- 1Choose the one category that matters most to you this month.
- 2Find the official destination for it and write down the contact details.
- 3Write three general questions to ask, and ask about fees if you are speaking with an agent or attorney.

This worksheet is for general orientation only. Do not write claim details, diagnoses or record numbers here. Anything specific to your claim belongs with an accredited representative.
These worksheet controls do not submit your answers to HTB. It stays in this page until you choose Save on this device, and saved answers can be seen by anyone else who uses this browser profile. They do not sync between devices and are lost if you clear browsing data.
Health care, disability, education, home loan, insurance, pension, burial, family and caregiver support.
For example: am I in the right place, what documents does the process need, how long does it usually take.
